FACULTY OF MEDICINE. DEPARTMENT OF HISTOLOGY. 1) The present study was undertaken to study the effect of hypothyroidism induced by carbimazole on the his¬tology and histocheniistry of the suprarenal glands of male rats. The animals were classified into three groups; the first group ( receiving carbimazole dur¬ing adulthood), the second group (receiving carbima¬zole since birth-day) and the third group ( develop¬ing hypothyroidism during the intrauterine life by administration of carbimazole to the pregnant female rats) , The suprarenals of normal rats at different ages were used as controls. :V : i 2) Specimens ^rere taken from the hypothyroid and control animals at one, two, four and eight weeks of carbim¬azole treatment. As regards the third group other spe¬cimens were taken on the first day after birth. # 3) Unfixed frozen sections were prepared and stained for succinic dehydrogenase and acid phosphatase* Formol-saline and potassium dichromate frozed sections were also stained for the demonstration of lipids and oat-echolamines respectively. Thin slices were fixed in alcoholic acid silver nitrate and paraffin sections were prepared for the demonstration of ascorbic acid. a)Thesis (Ph.D.) - MANSOURA UNIVERSITY. FACULTY OF MEDICINE.
