A new efficient algorithm is developed to determine the optimal scheduling of hydrothermal power systems where the effect of scheduling hydro generations on the total cost of generation is taken into account.Since water discharges for hydro plants are usually known for a large period of time e.g.a whole day rather than for small intervals,the problem is solved for the whole period under test as one integrated problem. The problem is formulated as a linear programming problem.the linearized model for the problem is formulated based on the Griffith-stewart method of linearization,thus gaining the advantages of linear programming without losing the accuracy of solution.The primal-Dual algorithm of linear programming is used for the optimization process.
