Deone, an erect ess shrub widely growing as a desert plant, rea.hing 3-5 metres in hmight; with long, virgate, spinescent hes; flowers arranged in subaxillary umbel-like racemes. s, follicles containing numerous albuminous seeds. ot: being long, cylindrical to fusiform tap ro.t with ~lateral branches, about 10-15-25 cm. in diameter and I metre in length., possesses dark brown logitudinally ted cork; splintary laminated fructure in the woo Id and soft in the bark; faint odour and slight bitter taste. em: being erect, carrying cylindrical alternate or opposite sate spinescent branches with l,~g interpodes; about 2-3 s in height; young parts be~pg tmooth, greenish, while the r ones light brown, rough ~nd covered with brownish ridged , a fainYOdour and a slight bi tte:v taS’te ~ aves: rare, when present being simple,s~ssile to shortly olated, exstipulate(~, opposite decussate, pubescent; lamina t ear lanceolate with entire margin, acut qpex and a symmetric e, about 2-5 cm. in length, 5-10 tIDl. in width; dull green in ur, papery texture, faint odour and slight bitter taste. rrflorescence : pedunculate terminal subaxillary rncemes, bly umbelliform; of 10-15-25 pedicellate flowers and flower - 244 --:: SUMMARY AND GENERAL CONCLUSI ONS present thesis includes a botanical Btn,~. and ~cal investigation of two ,lants belonging to . Leptadenia, Family Asclepiadacea Whi:h are used ~n c medici~ as stimulant, hypotensive, ~n treatment of imJand gout, also used as lactogenic and fnO~ treatment a ~ned ~bortion. These two pl~S are t ~. , a. 1J ’ne”teTOJ?N1.1.a (~. )”Decn.e hnica (¥ors&) Decne an -’ in sou~h Egypt desert. t bitter taste; being actino~orphic, hermaphrodite, tet- e, pentamerous (except the gynaecium), hypogenous; with formula: persistent of one whorl of 5 yellowish-green deeesepals; being ova~e with acute apex, entire margin bescent; of 2.5-5 mm. in length and 1.5-2.5 ~~. in width. formed of 5 epipetalous stamens alternating he petals; filaments united forrring a tube around the pissthers, partly adherent to the stigmatic disc forming a egium; anthers also united to each other through the membrrwings of each one. Pollinium being ovate flattened with ed apex, each two attached by translators to a corpusculum on the stigmatic disc between each two anthers. aecium : formed of two superior carples united by the parts of the styles and the Etigmas; ovary, unilocular with natropous ovules attached to a marginal placenta; being , glabrous ovate in shape, of 1-1.5 mm. in length , stigmas forming the stigmatic disc. it: consits of a pair.of divergent or parallel follicles, ating from a superior, monocarpellary, unilocul.- ovary; es through the adaxial side, being pedicellate, terete ted to ovoid ellipsddal with a narrow apex, measuring in length; green colour, faint odour and a slignt ovate to narrow lanceolate, compressed with glabrous surface carrying a coma of long silky hairs at the pylar end; raphe:nm..s from the apex to 2/3 the length of one e fla t surfaces; being 7-9 mm. in length and 2-4 mm. in width; thin leathery testa enclosing a narrow translucent endosperm fleshy, oily embryo, with a faint odour and oily slight r taste. 2. Micromorphology A.
