This study was carried out on ten cases of schistosomal hepatic fibrosis with ascites of different ages, sex and on five control subjects of comparable a&e, sex 0tf and of the sane socio-economic level. All the cases and control subjects were clinically examined and subjected to the following laboratory investigations : - Stool and urine analysis to detect schistosome ova. - Sigmoidoscopy and snip biopsy from the mucosa of the lower bowel, - Alcohol fractional test meal to determine the degree of gastric acidity (free and total). - Pepsin activity test. The dyspeptic sympotms encountered in the patients were studied. They included &ense of fullness in the epigastrium after meals in all patients, intestinal flatulence in QQ% and heart-burn in 2Q% of the cases.
