The thesis treats an important and up to data subject, namely,the new trends in digital communications with emphasis on optimum detection and the effects of propagation mediumdispersion •Inparticular, chirp modulation (CM), matched chirp odulation (MCM),continuouS phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) and continuous phase chirp modulation (CPC) are considered. Optimum detectionmethods for these new odulation techniques are investigated indetails. Partially coherent receivers are considered in addition to the classic,al coherent and oncoherent receivers. The effect of channel dispersion is investigaten in details for FSK and CM signals. It is shown that matched chirp modulation (MCM) is most suitable for signaling in such ispersive channels. a)Thesis(M.S.) - Alexandria University.
