The Egyptian leather industry is considered to be one of the most mportant chemical industrie s in Egypt. It 1.8 a very old industry with deep rooted ground and skillful workers • In Egypt , the leather tanning industry dependson local and imported hides and chemical materials • During the last few years , the export of leather and leather goods reached high figures , the ma~ importing countries were mainly western Europe and Arab countries . is a gr~at opportunity for expansion of the leathe~ goods industry , since egyptian raw hides are con¬sidered to be among the best in the world , s~ce they have :3 very smooth grain surface with no injuries , bruises or cuts and they also have’ few warble flay damages.The aims of the investigation were to measure the quality of the raw hides taking the tensile strength as a measure , since any improvements in the leather quality of the raw hides may lead to the progress of this industry 1.n Egypt.So tensile strength was determined related to raw hides of different origin in the different tages of prod¬uction of upper and sole leather .The present investigation deals with hides of diffe¬rent origin • All hides ~re processed to the same procedure of productio~both chrome upper leather and vegetable tanned leather • a)Thesis(M.S.) - Alexandria University.Faculty of Engineering.Department of Chemical Engineering. a)The Egyptian leather industry is considered to be one of the most mportant chemical industrie s in Egypt.
