One Take by John Paul, Greenwave Cold Storage by Makoda Ayshat Ali, and Sabeerah Business by Maryam Sanusi are the three start-ups that emerged winners in the recently concluded Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) COE start-up challenge, which started towards the end of last year. The annual event conducted by the university in collaboration with TiE Dubai is done to support innovative students with an entrepreneurial mindset to realize their business dreams.
The three start-ups victors, owned by students of SUN from different departments and levels, were chosen out of seven competitors that participated in the challenge. Other start-ups that participated in the challenge are Amta Delivery Company, Fatima Clothing, Eva Express, and Green Future.
Mr. Ashok Guruswamy, an entrepreneur in Kano; Mr. Yomi Sani Ibrahim, HR consultant and trainer at Bridge Connect Initiative; Mr. Mohi Manglani, MD Jaykay Carpets Industries Limited; Ms. Sicily George, Executive Director, TiE, Dubai; Mrs. Naimatu Abdullahi from Ja’iz Bank; and Mr. Babangida Mohammed, Manager Call Centre 9mobile Nigeria, were the judges that reviewed and selected the winners after their presentations.
In her opening remarks during the event, the Dean of the School of Arts, Management, and Social Sciences (SAMSS), Dr. Sudha Mavuri, said the event is always an intriguing one, bringing new ideas every year. She said the program not only inspires skyliners but also youth around the country. She appreciated the SUN team for supporting and mentoring the students, which started in the tail end of 2024.
Presenting certificates of victory and participation and gifts to the students, the Vice-Chancellor of SUN, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the event. He congratulated the students and encouraged them to see that their ideas have come to life. He lauded the efforts of the team that supported the students until the last leg of the challenge.
In their comments after the event, the judges applauded the management of SUN for organizing the event and motivating the students. They also appreciated the students for the time and effort they used to participate in the challenge.
