Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) yesterday, November 28th 2024, welcomed students and staff of Hasiyanda International School for Changing Gear lecture. The session held at the university’s ultra-modern common room with over 70 students in attendance.
Dr. Musa Innocent Ojeba, a lecturer from the department of Microbiology conducted the first session on attitudes and values while Dr. Sani Rabiu Bello on Legal Ethics. In his presentation, Dr. Ojeba highlighted the critical role that attitudes and values play in shaping an individual’s journey toward success. He emphasized that a positive attitude serves as a catalyst for overcoming challenges, fostering resilience, and maintaining motivation in the face of difficulties. He encouraged participants to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as insurmountable obstacles.
Dr. Ojeba also discussed the importance of strong core values such as integrity, empathy, respect, and responsibility. He explained that these values not only guide personal decision-making but also enhance relationships, build trust, and create a sense of purpose. Using real-life examples, he demonstrated how individuals who embrace positivity and align their actions with strong values are more likely to achieve long-term success in academics, careers, and personal life. He further inspired the students to reflect on their own attitudes and values, encouraging them to make conscious efforts to cultivate habits that align with their goals and aspirations.
Dr. Sani Rabiu Bello in his presentation delved into the foundational principles that govern ethical behavior in the legal profession and emphasized their relevance to broader societal development. Dr. Bello highlighted that legal ethics are not only essential for maintaining professionalism within the legal field but also serve as a cornerstone for justice, fairness, and trust in society. He explored critical topics such as accountability, confidentiality, and the duty of care that legal practitioners owe to their clients, colleagues, and the judiciary.
The session encouraged the students of Hasiyanda International School to reflect on their own ethical responsibilities and consider how they could apply these principles in their academic and future professional lives. Dr. Bello’s insights provided a clear message: upholding ethics is not only a professional duty but also a moral imperative for building a fair and equitable society.
