Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has today, October 9th, 2024, hosted the students of Asha International Model School on its changing gear series. The workshop held at the university’s newly established auditorium is aimed at enriching the students in skillset that will help them choose the right careers for their future success.
In her opening remarks, the Director of Public and Government Relations (DOPR), Ms. Sarada Maganti, said she welcomes the students on behalf of the management of the university for the program. She said the workshop surely opens the students eyes to opportunities in their respective career choices.
Lecturers from the Schools of Science and Information Technology (SSIT) and Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS) presented to the students during the session. While Dr. Ashok Kumar, a lecturer from the department of computer science, presented on ‘Tools Powered by AI’, Mr. Bashir Usman, a lecturer from the department of mass communication, presented on ‘Studentship in the Era of Social Media’.
During his session, Dr. Kumar explained that “machines have been equipped with techniques to talk, learn, understand and communicate like humans. This is Artificial Intelligence in action’. He explained that the intelligence in communicating with machines using voice is one of the latest transformations in technology. He listed some AI tools like Chat GPT, Grammarly, QuillBot, and Gemini as important tools that can be utilized effectively by the students in learning.
Mr. Usman, during his presentation, explained extensively how the Gen-Z are learning in a transformative world. He said students are usually faced with the dilemma of concentrating in class sessions and surfing the internet and social media applications.
He then advised them to make the best use of social media for collaboration and networking with like-minded people. He said they can effectively use the platforms to acquire knowledge in their areas of interest.
Stating his thoughts after the session, Mr. Loho Dondo Christopher, one of the teachers who accompanied the students, remarked that the session was something he has been looking forward to. He appreciated the faculty and SUN management for hosting them for the workshop.
In closing, Ms. Maganti appreciated the management of Asha International Model School for its support to the students and the university. She thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support in the conduct of such projects at SUN.
