Department of Management commemorates World Savings Day 2024

The Department of Management at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) commemorated World Savings Day 2024 yesterday, October 31st, 2024, at the university’s campus. The session was specially organized for the level 300 and 400 students of Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, and Economics.

The celebration is a global event, done annually on October 31st, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of financial literacy and responsible saving habits, particularly among the youth. The focus of the day is to highlight the need for individuals to save for future needs and emergencies, reinforcing the idea that personal savings contribute to economic stability and growth.

As part of the celebration, guest speaker Dr. Usha Rekha Chinthapalli, Associate Professor in Management from India, was invited to deliver lectures on key financial topics, including the significance of saving, capital investment, and strategies for achieving long-term financial goals. Through a virtual guest lecture, the expert engaged with the students, sharing valuable insights on prudent money management and the role of savings in securing a stable financial future.

In her session, Dr. Chinthapalli explained that “by encouraging individuals and communities to prioritize financial planning, we create pathways for economic stability, resilience, and long-term growth.” She also explained that there are several investment platforms in Nigeria today that can be utilized for financial prosperity, such as piggyinvest, among others.

In addition to the guest lecture, the students presented research papers on various aspects of savings and investment. Topics covered included “Capital Budgeting for Startups: Challenges and Strategies,” “Private Equity Investment: Strategies for Success,” and “Devaluation of the Naira: Impacts on Foreign Direct Investment and Domestic Growth.” Other presentations delved into subjects like inflation, venture capital, real estate, and cryptocurrency, offering students the opportunity to explore diverse areas of finance and investment.

The session provided a platform for students to learn from industry professionals and showcase their research, promoting a deeper understanding of financial planning and investment strategies, critical for both personal growth and the development of Nigeria’s economy.
