Guest lecture series: economics and entrepreneurship departments conduct guest lecture on economics of sustainable development

The Departments of Economics and Entrepreneurship at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) have organized a guest lecture for their students on Tuesday, 29th October 2024. The session was done to allow the students to interface with a professional in the field of economics so that they can learn the rudiments of the field and be prepared for future engagements.

The students were lectured by Mr. Abdullahi Daiyabu Marmara, an economics expert on ‘Nigerian Economic Sustainability Plan 2024-25’. He said the “Nigerian Economic Sustainability Plan is a comprehensive strategy to drive sustainable economic growth, boost local production, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a leader in digital innovation and environmental stewardship.”.

Mr. Marmara gave the overview of the plan from three perspectives: the holistic approach, public-private collaboration, flexibility and adaptability. He said all of these are very important in aligning Nigeria’s sustainability ambition for the better.

He then emphasized the aspects of boosting local production and reducing imports, investing in infrastructure and job creation, and enhancing social welfare and environmental sustainability as key areas that require competent youth. The expert admitted that youth must be educated enough to participate actively in elevating the status of the country by positively supporting the success of the plan.

In closing, Dr. S. Sundarajan, a lecturer in the department of economics at SUN, appreciated the guest speaker for speaking to the students. He said the knowledge will positively impact their career choices so that they can contribute to the country.
