A team from the National Universities Commission (NUC), on a resource verification visit to the Department of Nursing and Physiotherapy at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN), has reiterated the importance of resource verification in the validation of academic programmes in Nigeria. Hajia Maryam Sali, the NUC's Director of Accreditation who led a 5-man team on an official visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor, stated that the visit was about evaluating the academic resource of Nursing and Physiotherapy and ensuring that it conforms to expectations of the regulatory body.
As she puts it, “We received an application from Skyline University Nigeria to commence programmes in Nursing and Physiotherapy, we are here to look at the physical and human resources that are required in the areas of the programmes”. She further stressed that the team’s assignment was to look at what was available in the Department and make necessary suggestions to speed up the commencement of the programmes.
Earlier, while receiving the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor of Skyline University Nigeria, Professor Ajith Kumar V.V welcomed the NUC team and thanked them for their guidance. According to him, the university is proud of what the NUC stands for, particularly on improving the existing standards of universities in the country, both academically and physically, to contribute to the body of knowledge.
He assured the visiting team an unfettered access to information regarding the programmes, taking into account that the suggestions received from the exercise would validate the quality of the university’s standards so that SUN can improve on matching excellence. Other members of the university management present, include the Registrar, Mr. Haruna Aliyu, and the University Librarian, Mr. Kabiru Danladi Garba.
Other members of the Commission’s 5-man resource verification team includes Professor Sunday Ajayi, the Nursing Resource Person from the University of Jos, Proffessor Rufa’I Ahmed, the Physiotherapy Resource Person from the Kaduna State University, Mr. Musa Alkali Usman and Mr. Hayatuddeen Umar, both NUC’s Verifications Officers.
