RMK Initiative: Skyline University Nigeria trains first batch of teachers on Digital Skills and Teaching Pedagogies

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has conducted two-day training for 280 government school teachers, the first batch for the RMK Initiative for 1000 school teachers training. The teachers were trained on digital skills and teaching pedagogies from November 27th to 28th, 2024.

On the first day of the training, participants were trained on Microsoft Packages—Excel, Word, and Power Point. This was facilitated by the lecturers from the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT): Dr. A. Senthil Kumar, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Ms. Hamdi Liwaul and Mr. Sani Abdullahi. The session was done to acquaint the school teachers with basic computer literacy that can aid the discharge of their duties effectively.

The participants took part in a hands-on session of how the Microsoft packages work with the guidance of SUN lecturers. The training as the tutors highlighted will support the teachers in saving records, storing data and making presentations. These computer activities are practiced anywhere in the world, hence increasing the speed of work for students.

The participants were fully engaged in sessions about teaching pedagogies on November 28th 2024. A team of six lecturers from SUN, collaborated to deliver the session in the university’s Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Auditorium. Dr. Olumide Ajayi, Mr. Miracle Livinus, Dr. Senthil S. Kumar, Dr. Karimu Moses, Dr. Saminu Umar and Mr. Bashir Usman.

The experts provided extensive training on three teaching pedagogies: the storytelling method, group discussions-infused flip class and problem-based learning. These methods have proven to be effective and aid networking and collaboration among students. The teachers participated in group discussions and learning sessions guided by the lecturers to understand the requirements of the teaching pedagogies and how to execute them.
