To prepare students for the technologically driven world and the untapped opportunities available in Skyline University Nigeria (SUN), the university has organized a ‘Changing the Gear’ seminar for the students and staff of Evangel Group of Schools in Kano metropolis. The seminar with the theme, “Reinventing Yourself: Career Opportunities” was held on Thursday, 4th March 2021 in the university’s entrepreneurship lab and coordinated by, the Director of Academic Support Services, Ms. Sarada Maganti and her team.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Skyline University Nigeria, Dr. Ajith Kumar V.V, while delivering the opening remark, stated that the world is full of abundant opportunities and only education can expose young people to the opportunities that abound in it. He added that one would need to plan, have to focus and dream about the future to make it work. He enjoined the students to use their skills judiciously in advancing their chosen careers.
Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, a Graduate Assistant of the Department of Chemistry and a presenter at the seminar, stated that learning new skills and adapting to new situations, is key to both professional and personal success. The ability to adjust, evolve, develop skills, and embrace change as we progress through life determines just how much we can achieve in life. “Reinventing yourself mean diving into a new and improved version of yourself”. He added.
Another Presenter, Ms. Aisha Turaki, an Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Management, speaking on Career Guidance, stated that skills are the perceptible abilities we possess as humans and interests are the directions we lead our abilities to. She added that "the future is not going to be a mirror of the past, we have to do something radically different from everything that has been practised up until now".
The seminar is part of the university’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to equip the young generation with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the global world.
