Three students of the Biochemistry Department, Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) have exceeded all expectations of the Department in the recently held Skill and Product Development Programme. The Programmeme, which is part of classroom curriculum learning, allowed the students to develop a product in the category of general day-to-day usage.
This activity is aimed at equipping the students with entrepreneurial attributes e. g self-reliance, industriousness, the idea of the scope of sales of the product, income/revenue generations, etc. which help contribute to the improvement of the nation’s economy and employment. Students took the challenge in the right spirit and developed three products: garment cleaning detergent, Insecticide, and body perfume.
The students, Ms. Zainab Musa Bello, Ms. Fatima Bashir Kibiya, and Ms. Nihat Mustapha involved in the development of the products, were supervised, by Mr. Miracle Uwa Livinus, a faculty of the Department of Biochemistry. Mr. Miracle gave overwhelming comments and commendation for the students’ presentations as well as their ability to demonstrate the production processes.
He expressed his appreciation for the fine details of the experiments presented by the students in terms of the outcome of their production. “I’m happy that the students were able to display their skills, explained the chemical composition of the products, its application, procedures as well as result”, he stated.
Accordingly, the quality of the products was preliminarily evaluated by Professor Sanjoy Kumar Pal, who is one of the key members of the University’s Skill, Entrepreneur, and Innovation Council (SEIC) of the University, as well as Dr. Susanta Pahari the HOD – Chemical Science.
