Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has, on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, trained government and private school teachers on entrepreneurship skills for educators. The training held at the campus of SUN was part of the institution’s commitment to positively impact communities with education through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Sarada Maganti, the Director of Public and Government Relations (DOPR), said the university is always ready to support educational initiatives in Kano and beyond. She added that the university will surely be coming up with more programs that will uplift the standard of education in Kano communities.
Mr. Aliyu Lawal, a lecturer in the Department of Management at SUN who started the session, said the program is very important to highlight the need for inculcating entrepreneurship discipline in the youth. He said this can be a bold step towards improving the nation’s economy.
Delivering his lecture titled ‘Transition to an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset: Empowering the Next Generation’, Mr. Trimisyu Lawal, a lecturer also at the Department of Management at SUN, said today that it is very important to teach students how to become self-reliant. He admitted that empowering the next generation of innovators requires mindset-grooming. In his words, ‘students must be encouraged to think outside the box in order to birth innovation and sustain it’.
Dr. Sudha Mavuri, the Dean of the School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS), while facilitating the last session on learning outcomes, explained that students must be given challenges and problems to solve, not mere directions. She pointed out that entrepreneurship skillsets are not exclusive to particular domains but are very useful for everyone at all times.
Some of the strategies for classroom training she identified include brainstorm bins, genius hour, solution boxes, etc. In their various remarks, the participants expressed their satisfaction with the overall delivery of the session and commended the facilitators.
