B.N.Sc. Nursing Science

The Philosophy of the Nursing degree programme is hinged on believes that Man is a biopsychosocial being, and his needs are the focus of all nursing activities in its efforts towards achieving a high level of wellness. Courses shall be provided leading to the award of a degree – Bachelor of Nursing Science, which will be awarded with honours. Courses to be taught at this level should include English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students are also introduced to computer science.
The Nursing programme serves to:
- Produce polyvalent nurse practitioners capable of executing nursing skills in diverse healthcare settings while therapeutically assisting individuals, families, and communities with different backgrounds and health challenges.
- Prepare nurse practitioners who understand the role of health services within the broader social system
- Develop nurses who can initiate innovative changes in nursing education, practice, and administration through research.
- Ensuring client safety through proficient nursing skills.
The objectives are to:
- Offer a liberal, general, and professional education that enables nurses to incorporate psychosocial and physical factors in health promotion, health maintenance, and health restoration
- Prepare student nurses to think critically, communicate effectively, and uphold ethical standards by shunning patient discrimination.
- Train graduates to communicate effectively with clients, healthcare teams, and other stakeholders using current technologies in education and healthcare service delivery.
- Attain optimal health and performing nursing skills at proficient levels that assured safety of the clients
