Skyline University Nigeria

School of Legal Studies (SLS)

The mission of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) is to provide multi-disciplinary programmes in higher Education. The University is already conducting degree programmes in Arts, Management, Sciences, IT and Basic medical Sciences. As an addition to the existing programmes, the university deemed it imperative to include degree programmes in Law – LL.B. Jurisprudence and International Law (JIL) and LL.B. Commercial and Industrial Law (CIL), which is an important parameter of measuring social development of the community. The philosophy of the Law programme takes cognizance of the philosophy of legal system/practice and legal education for Nigerian people who can serve as legal practitioners and law enforcement officers in a more professional manner.

The School of Legal Studies (SLS) was established to contribute significantly to the enhancement of legal studies and practices. It is designed to provide legal education within the realms of a dynamic socio-political environment that encompasses the national and global trends and challenges. The main focus of the programmes of SLS is to create an environment that spurs intellectual rigour, analytical and critical engagements as well as profound ethical standards. The prorgramme aims to produce law graduates who can compete actively in legal, social, economic and political developments on a global scale.

  1. To ensure that Law is taught as it is meant at any given time, and that every Law student adopts a comparative approach to legal studies bearing in mind that there are many systems of Law (Common Law, Statutory Law, Customary Law and Islamic Law) currently in operation.
  2. To ensure that students are imbued with a general knowledge and understanding of Law.
  3. To develop in students the intellectual ability to apply research, knowledge and analytical skills to solving theoretical and practical legal problems.
  4. To acquaint students with principles of judicial processes, legal systems, as well as their interactions with socio-economic frameworks.
  5. To provide, through training and orientation, an appreciation of the growing relevance of inter and multidisciplinary approach to the solutions of complex life problems and the roles of law therein.
  1. Prepare students to practice Law with professional excellence and commitment to fairness, justice, compassion and the highest ethical standards
  2. Develop in students the knowledge and competency that will enable them to succeed in a range of careers, leadership at the Bar, the Bench, the academia, the public and private sectors
  3. Prepare students to serve the community, accommodate disadvantaged members of the society, and be dedicated to the preservation of human dignity and the common good
  4. Train students to appreciate the synergy between the law and other disciplines or professions
  5. Prepare students for the diverse and globalised environment.
