Library Facilities and Services
Library is providing the following services to the users:
i. ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOGUE (OPAC)
Patrons can access the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of KOHA through the Portal Service by entering their Students ID number and password provided by the SUN.
ii. INTERNET / CD ROM SEARCH ASSISTANCE
This is service is available in the Electronic Library Area. Patrons can get the CD ROM search assistance on request basis.
iii. ONLINE RESOURCES
A proper orientation will be given to all the students of SAMSS, SSIT,SBMS,SLS and PG students about the Online Databases. Moreover, it will be given during the sessions which will be conducted by the Librarian inside the library premises. The Library is equipped with 30 Computer terminals with internet access. Students can access online databases subscribed by the library. This database gives access to more than 2.2 million E-resources.
iv. INFORMATION SERVICES
Library provides all kinds of information services such as Current Awareness Service (CAS), Selective Dissemination of Information Services (SDI), Query Based Information Service (QBS), New Arrivals of the week, Research Support Information Service (RSIS), Good Reading Quotes etc., Library Bulletin provides concise information about the Library activities and the University in General.
v. NEWSPAPER CLIPPING SERVICE
The Library also subscribes to several newspapers and has a special service of newspaper clipping in which important news related to the subject areas is clipped and recorded for future reference. This is done by the Library staff with the help of faculty from different subject field on daily basis.
vi. INTER LIBRARY LOAN
SUN Library has an agreement of inter library loan facility with Yusuf Maitama Sule University Library Kano, Federal University Dutse Library, Jigawa, Sule Lamido University Library of Kafin Hausa of Jigawa State, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano. Their services can be availed both by the students, faculty and the staff for the purpose of references, borrowing of books and use of the online resources. The members of SUN who wish to avail this facility shall make a formal request to the Head Librarian of SUN with specific requests of the required material. The Head Librarian of SUN will make necessary arrangements to make the material available to facilitate the student, faculty or staff within two working days. SUN library also extends facility to enable students and faculty to visit the Kano State Public Library by showing their SUN Identity card
vii. TRAINING & ORIENTATION
Orientation is given at the beginning of every semester and periodically to the Faculty Members, Supporting Staff and Students about the Library Resources, Policy & Procedures, Library Facilities and Library Services.
viii. INTERNSHIP/SIWES
SUN library will provide the internship/SIWES opportunity to the students on part time basis.
SUN Library provides the following facilities to the users:
i. Reference Section
Reference titles are available in various subjects based on the curriculum core text books and it will be updated every year through purchase and subscription, organizing Book Fairs, Online Book Request & LRDC Meetings etc.,
ii. Rental Section
Rental Books will be given to the Students at the beginning of every semester, and it is expected to be returned at the end of the semester. Titles will be updated based on the recommendation of program review committee.
iii. Periodical Section
Physical Journals & Magazines are displayed and the back volumes can be borrowed by SUN Members. No current journals will be issued.
iv. New Arrivals Section
All newly arrived materials will be displayed in this section after system processing.
v. Reprography Section
This section provides the university community with black & white photocopy, coloured photocopy, black & white printing, coloured printing, scanning and slide binding services. These services are meant for members of SUN only. In carrying out its mandate, the Reprography Section is advised by the Library Resources Development Committee (LRDC)
vi. Silent Zone
This zone is created to fulfill the requirements of the library users who want to study in a very silent environment.
vii. Learning Zone
Learning zone is available in the Main Library Hall with 30 computers.
viii. Teaching Zone
Faculty members can bring Students and conduct the session with help of reference and Online Resources (EBSCO, ProQuest, Ebrary, IGI Global, Scopus, IEEE and Cambridge Core etc.)
ix. Creative Zone
This zone is created to publicized and showcase the talent of our Students in different areas
x. Alexa Chat Box
This zone is meant to have one-on-one interaction with library users and Alexa, to know more about Skyline University Nigeria and any current happenings around you.
xi. Robotic Room
This zone is generally meant for Computer Science and Software Engineering Students, the idea is make them have a practical session and interaction with Robots so as to prepare and groom for the reality of the IT world.
Xii Post Graduate Reading zone
This zone provides a comfortable avenue for Postgraduate students such as (Msc and PhD.) to read and conduct research/
