SUN Microbiology Department organizes Guest Lecture

The department of microbiology at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has organized a guest lecture for the students in biological sciences. The guest lecture was titled ‘Relevance of Microbiology in the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research’.

Giving opening remarks, Dr. Sanjoy Pal, the head of the department of biological sciences at SUN, said the guest lecture is a very important opportunity for the students to have a first-hand interface with experts.

Mr. Fatihu Rufai Ahmad of the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research, Kano Liaison Office, was the guest speaker invited to speak to SUN students. In his presentation, Mr. Ahmad said diagnosis is an important aspect of the institute.

He admitted that it is quite imperative for the students to understand the microscopic, clinical and molecular diagnosis of pathogenic microorganisms, as they will advance knowledge in Nigeria and beyond. He then encouraged the students to always take initiative in conducting research and networking with experts so that they would be aware of trends in the field.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Abdulsalam Mustapha, a lecturer in the department of microbiology at SUN, said he was particularly impressed with the engagement of the students. He said the participation made the session a very memorable one and he is confident that they have gained new knowledge. He then thanked Mr. Ahmad for honoring the invitation from the university to share his wealth of expertise.
