B.Sc. Mass Communication

Journalism and Mass Communication programme will impart an understanding of Mass Communication to men and women, bearing in mind a self-motivated interdepartmental approach. The Department of Mass Communication is committed to graduating students who can make a positive and decisive contribution to the world.
- To demonstrate effective speaking and listening skills for communication in personal, public and media settings.
- To demonstrate effective writing skills for communication in personal, public and different forms of media.
- To inculcate the ability to observe events, gather information, write news reports, news/press releases, report on events and edit other people’s writings.
- To instill the ability to understand the media critically and recognize how the media shapes and are shaped by politics, society, culture, economics and our daily lives.
- To demonstrate the ability to recognize the power of persuasion and the ethical responsibilities of communicators in communication at all levels.
- To demonstrate an understanding of the role of communication in fostering interaction and interdependence across gender, race and culture.
- To inspire the ability to apply communication theories to analyze contemporary problems.
- To demonstrate an understanding of the history, development, and practice of print media, electronic media and news media.
- To prepare students to be able to recognize and analyze the mass problems in different localities and effectively design media strategies that will provide solutions to these problems.
- To enable students to use media to present a plan of action that can meet the expectations of the local people.
- To help students study and understand the role of mass media in a liberal democracy.
- To enable students get well grounded in the science of communication and possess the capacity to develop human, social and technological modes of communication for the benefit of the community.
- To produce graduates with the required technical competence who will apply a creative and critical approach to the exercise of media professions.
