In a chat with the university’s media and communications department, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that students’ ability to demonstrate knowledge and skill competencies is being taken seriously due to its significance in preparing students to be self-reliant in all walks of life.

He said, “We believe in our student’s ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills and competencies in all walks of life. We believe in our students exhibiting lifelong skills that help them to be prepared for the professional and personal life. We also inculcate the student’s body to participate in various professional development Programmeme organized by SUN at regular intervals. Enrolling in toastmasters is a must to equip them to develop their public speaking and presentation skills.”

He described the university as a source of inspiration that enlightens the quest for knowledge, skills and competencies. The scope of SUN is well laid out in its strategic plan where the path of expanding into schools of law, engineering, basic medical sciences, medicine and dentistry in the coming years is robustly determined. “We are here to fulfill the aspirations of the Nigerian community in the fields of higher education and research in social sciences, technology and health sciences”. He added.

SUN is the first International University licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to operate in the northwestern region of Nigeria. Currently, it has commenced with two schools ‘School of arts, management and social sciences’ (SAMSS) and ‘School of science and information technology’ (SSIT).

The VC disclosed that each of the school is having 8 and 5 departments and a total of 15 Programmes. The core strength of SUN is in its capacity to provide quality assurance to student fraternity by having strong industry link, focus on the holistic development of the student and capacity to provide personal advising to students to enable them improve their academic standing.

“Industry and community engagement is essential to relate with the student’s body to realities of business and community so that they are prepared to contribute to the nation-building process. Our certification course embedded with our main Programme would be our key differentiator in the market”. He remarked
