Students of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) were recently exposed to the fundamentals of academic and career success when two experts, Professor Rabia Sa’id, from the Department of Physics, Bayero University Kano and Dr. Meenakshi Anantram, CEO of Razzmatazz Entertainment Networks, exposed them to some of the secrets in their career journey. They said this much during a webinar organized by the University, under the coordination of Ms. Nafisa Inuwa, the University’s Event Coordinator.
The Webinar with the theme, ‘How I Got There’ was organized on 30th August 2021 to allow students to understand some of the challenges encountered on the journey towards building a successful career. This will allow them to develop some of the skills that can reduce un- and underemployment, increase productivity, and improve the state of the economy. It will as well, bring positive effects in the life of an individual.
Professor Rabia who gave a systematic review of her professional portfolio stated that the answer to having a successful career development is in the understanding of the value that one will bring in terms of skills and competencies. According to her, “Apart from academic grades, certain skills and competencies will be required to help the students make up a successful career”. She highlighted that some of these skills will be earned through volunteering and community services participation.
While stating the importance of the theme of the webinar, Dr Meenakshi advised the students to work on themselves, their body language and have a good knowledge of the internet, which will help them to be proficient in learning. She highlighted empathy and sympathy, which will help them to improve communication, boost creative thinking and strengthen leadership skills. Dr. Meenakshi added that when opportunity meets preparation, success is inevitable.
Earlier, in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Skyline University Nigeria, Professor Ajith Kumar V.V, who welcomed the guest speakers, stated that the platform was created to inform the students of the university about the happenings in the corporate and business environment. This he stated, is in line with the objectives of the university to graduate job creators, rather than job seekers. He enjoined the participants to pay keen attention to the important lessons by the speakers.
The webinar was attended by management, Staff and Students of the university, as well as members of the general public.
