Skyline University Nigeria conducts empowerment training for Kurmawa inmates

Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has conducted skills acquisition program at Kurmawa Correctional Center. The two-day training was conducted from Wednesday, April 24, 2024, to Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the premises of Kurmawa Correctional Center in Kano State.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Trimisiyyu Lawal, the Head of Student Service Department (SSD), Mr. Aliyu Muhammed, Head Center for Continuing Learning (CCL), both lecturers at the department of Management and Abulwafa Sadiq Kassim, the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at SUN. A total of 52 beneficiaries were trained on the techniques of making bar soap, liquid soap, medicated and laundry soap.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Lawal explained that the training is part of the community service projects carried out by SUN. He admitted that the initiative was specially prepared for the inmates after last year’s interface with the center’s management. He highlighted the importance of skill acquisition for the inmates as necessary for their future lives.

On the first day, 32 male inmates were trained on how to produce bar soap, liquid soap, medicated and laundry soap and the marketable opportunities attached to their production. On the second day of the training, 20 female inmates were trained on the same techniques as the male inmates.

The President of Students Representative Council (SUN), Kassim, implored the inmates to judiciously apply the skills they learned during the training upon their release. He thanked the management of the correctional center for the opportunity they gave SUN.
