Skyline University Nigeria Exposed Students of Asha Int. Model School to Ethical Mindfulness

Senior students of Asha International Model School, Kano, were hosted by the management of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) on Saturday 15th January 2022. The students participated in a ‘Changing Gear’ seminar on the theme, “Ethical Mindfulness”, the awareness that arises when people intentionally pay attention in a kind, open, and discerning way without being judgmental.
The speaker at the event, Dr. Sudha Mavuri, who made a presentation on the theme of the event, stated that a student practicing ethical mindfulness in the middle of a campus might, pause, take a conscious breath, check in with him/herself, and observe how he/she is feeling before he takes a test. She added that this helps us to become more mindful in our daily lives.
While tracing the importance of ethical mindfulness, Dr. Sudha said, if students regularly practice ethical mindfulness, they may start to find themselves more capable of focusing on a math problem in a given moment, rather than the multitude of other things competing for their attention.
According to her, “Students can learn to become more aware of the bodily sensations they feel when they experience challenging emotions like anger or fear. “When you experience these sensations as signals of distress that begin and end, you may be more likely to ‘respond’ to your emotions, or rather let it go”.
While giving his opening remark, the Vice-Chancellor of Skyline University Nigeria, Prof. Ajith Kumar V.V welcomes the students of Andal International Model School to the University. He explained that the seminar has its foundation in the University’s well-defined mandate to promote knowledge, skill, and technology for innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship that prepares ethical and responsible citizens who will serve the society.
Ajith encouraged the students to be mindful of time management and balance between school and social life. He charged them to make sure they embark on things that make their parents happy. “The world is full of opportunities… study hard, look out for what the world needs and develop the required skills needed to make an impact in the world”, he stated.
The Seminar also featured important contributions from the University Registrar, Mr. Haruna Aliyu, the Director of Academic Support Service, Ms. Sarada Maganti, the Assistant Marketing Manager, Mr. Sunday Ogbenikoko, Mr. Faruq Ismail, and Ms. Hadiza Ado. The event was concluded with a tour of the University.
