The Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Test Center has today 28th March, 2024, conducted an open day for prospective candidates willing to take the IELTS examinations. The event sessions include orientation about IELTS and mock examinations for the participants.
SUN has yesterday 27th March, 2024, officially launched the IELTS Test Center and partnership with British Council Nigeria. This signifies a giant stride in the history of the university’s establishment that will pave the way for the university to be supporting testers and ensuring that the IELTS standard is optimum and aligns with the goals of the British Council.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Abdulganiyyu Abdulkareem, the Center for Continuing Learning (CCL) executive at SUN, said the session was to fully orient those interested in writing the examinations now or in the future. He said SUN will support participants by providing adequate counseling with certified counselors accredited by IELTS.
Mr. Teluwo Adesegun, the Business Development Manager at the British Council Nigeria Examinations Department covering Abuja and Northern Nigeria, who was a facilitator in the session, said the open day is essential to enabling participants to prepare adequately for the examinations.
He said that, basically, prospects would attempt questions in four categories: speaking, listening, reading and writing. He said a successful attempt at all of these enables one to obtain the IELTS certificate, which is valid for two years.
He admitted that there are various reasons why students fail the IELTS test. They include over-preparation, not identifying the right match for one’s quest abroad and multiple mistakes made during the registration process.
He said the categories of examinations offered are academic and general tests. These tests offer opportunities for people to either study or work abroad. Mr. Adesegun also added that IELTS is offered both on paper and on computers for Gen Z especially. The paper-based tests are conducted every week of the month, while the computer-based tests are offered on a monthly basis.
Mr. Adesegun then advised the participants that attended the open day and other prospective candidates to always be calm during the examination for maximum results and obtain a valid international passport, which is required for the test.
Tijjani Abiola, one of the participants who took the mock IELTS, said the open day has helped him debunk myths about IELTS. He says he is confident about writing the test at any time.
Delivering the closing remarks, Mr. Abdulkareem thanked the participants for gracing the open day and taking the mock examinations on behalf of the management of the university.
