While making a statement on the purpose of the sports festival, the Sports Instructor of the university, Mrs. Stella Ekau, disclosed that the festival was done to encourage female participation in sports by bringing out hidden talents and creativity. “Many girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys. Through the female sports festival, we have been able to get the female students to actively participate in sports and initiated a platform that will support their continuous involvement in the games.
“We are glad to see so many students come out to support what we are doing. We believe that girls’ participation in sports will help them learn important life-skills such as teamwork, leadership and confidence. Although some of the female students still feel the need to participate less in sports, we have encouraged them that sports will help enhance their self-image. Mrs. Stella stated.
While taking comments from the students, Aisha Zannah, a student of Mass Communication who actively officiated the event with the support of the Sports Department, expressed her appreciation to the management of Skyline University Nigeria for organizing a successful event for the female students; Another student, Khadija Ado, a student of Software Engineering felt it was a welcome decision by the management of the university to get the female students out on a celebratory atmosphere; Hauwa Janan Aliyu, a student of Entrepreneurship and innovation, who spoke on the importance of the International Women’s day celebration, said that the event was happening at a time when the world is celebrating women. She was happy that the management decided to celebrate student through the female sports festival.
For the most part, the female sports festival received overwhelmingly positive reviews by the students who were happy to have participated.
