The management of Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) has conducted a capacity-building workshop for managers of cooperative societies in Kano State. The event took place on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the SUN campus, with over 50 participants from different cooperative societies in the state.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Shehu Bala, the director of cooperative societies from the Kano State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Solid Minerals, said it was a pleasure seeing the group of participants from different cooperative societies in the states. He said it was a great milestone in the history of the ministry. He added that the ministry’s collaboration with SUN will undoubtedly open a new chapter for development.

Delivering the first presentation, Mr. Baba Bello Abubakar delved into the legal aspects that guide the operations of cooperative societies in Nigeria. He said legal aspects are the most crucial aspects of cooperative societies because of their establishment since the colonial period. He talked extensively about leadership, elections, bye-law review and conflict resolution.

Mr. Trimisiyyu Lawal and Mr. Aliyu Muhammad from the department of management at SUN made presentations in both Hausa and English on People Management. In their presentation, they stated that fairness, equity and diversity are the pillars upon which a team is built and sustained.

On their own part, the Dean of the School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS), Dr. Sudha Mavuri and Dr. Adamu Usman Musa, a lecturer from the department of Economics at SUN, explained thoroughly the concepts of Branding, Value Creation and Financial Discipline. They explained that in order to make cooperative societies great in Nigeria and ensure their sustainability, cooperatives must explore opportunities for profitability by learning from the successes of other cooperatives in the world.
