Skyline University Nigeria students pay technical visit to Research Laboratories

The students of the departments of microbiology and biochemistry at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) have paid a technical visit to research laboratories at Bayero University Kano (BUK). The visit was to showcase other advancements in scientific research that are obtainable at the university.

In his remarks, the Head of Department (HOD) of Biological Sciences at SUN, Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Pal, said the students visit is indeed a wholesome experience, providing students with more information outside their school setting. He added that the activity will surely motivate the students to visit other laboratories to gain more knowledge about emerging trends and establish a good network.

Dr. Pal also explained that research laboratories are essential for pushing the boundaries of understanding in biology and are often at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries and scientific advancements in the field.

Students from levels 300 and 400 visited the microbiology, molecular biology, pharmaceutical microbiology, and biotechnology laboratories at BUK. The students and faculty were received by Prof. Muhammad Yasha’u, the Head of Department, Microbiology Department and Prof. M. D. Mukhtar, the Head of Department, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, who took them around the departments and laboratories at the university.

In their various remarks after receiving the SUN team, the HODs expressed their delight with the visit. They highlighted that the visit has opened more avenues for the exchange of information and academic interaction among the universities. They then expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the students and promised to assist them wherever possible to advance their careers.

The students were shown the PCR machine, specialized analytical instruments and other equipment related to the drug discovery process. They were also briefed about the various research activities that are ongoing in the department. Process of new drug discovery especially antibiotics was thoroughly explained to the students.
